Our country is a melting pot of many different races, cultures and religions. Even though we might only stick with what we are familiar with, there’s no harm in embracing the variety of different cultures that we have here in Malaysia.
Recently, the wedding of a Chinese couple went viral after they had gone above and beyond to embrace the true Malaysian spirit as they had an entirely Malay styled wedding ceremony.
In a TikTok video shared by @nasuha.aynaa, one of the invited guests to the wedding, she showcased how the Chinese couple have implemented Malay traditions and styles into their wedding.
Some of the ways they did it was by:
- the groom who dressed in a sampin and baju melayu,
- serving Malay food,
- silat performance,
- kuda kepang performance,
- zapin performance,
- the newlyweds family dressed in nyonya kebaya and baju melayu.
This is 1Malaysia
The video has gone viral on TikTok and currently sits on over 459,700 views at the time of writing. Malaysians took to the comments section to praise the couple for embracing the Malay culture and for introducing it into their wedding ceremony.
“I’ve never seen the Chinese do this… the best.”
“This is the definition of 1 Malaysia. Live together, eat together, be happy together”, commented a user.
One netizen praised the newlyweds and said, “They have an incredible spirit. Treasure the people are them as long as their friends of different races can become friends with one another and eat together“.
