WATCH: Ampang Park LRT Station Escalator Goes Up In Flames But Thank God For Our Firefighters!

The escalator at the Ampang Park LRT Station in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, had caught on fire at 5am this morning.

Based on a report by Sinar Harian, the Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Noor Dellhan Yahaya shared that an emergency call came in at around 5.16am.

“A police patrol car (MPV) team was mobilised to the location. Fire and Rescue personnel had put out the fire. The fire caused damage to the escalator and its roof,” he said.

Utusan Malaysia reported that 2 fire engines from the Setiawangsa Fire Station had arrived at the scene and managed to contain the fire.

They also shared that 90% of the fire had spread to the roof of the structure.

Noor Dellhan added that the cause of the fire may be a short circuit on the escalator control switch box, but further investigations are underway.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

“The incident did not involve any fatal accidents and the management has now closed the escalator operations to the public as a safety measure,” he explained.
