Zone 1 Officer of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Melaka, Fire Chief Tc. Zulkhairani Ramli said the emergency call was received at 9.59 pm via the MERS 999 line. A team of 23 officers and members along with 4 machines and two Emergency Service Support Units (EMRS) were rushed to the scene of the incident.

The team spent more than 12 hours in an attempt to put out the blazing fire and as of 10:30 am this morning, the work was still going on, reported Sin Chew and Kosmo.

“The fire was successfully brought under control at 11.05pm, but until now operations are still being carried out to put out the fire,” he said this morning.

Despite their effort, the warehouse, which covered an area of 7,200 square meters, was 90% destroyed by the fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The forensic team is currently working to uncover the cause of the fire.

As of this morning, the warehouse was still cordoned off but the main road near the scene was accessible to the public. However, thick smoke could still be seen from the outside.
