Cathryn Li truly has had a tumultuous week previously when she went viral for all the wrong reasons after storming off during a live talk show after she read some derogatory comments from Facebook users.
During the talk show, Andy Chan, a music producer, and entertainer was singing a song with the other hosts while Cathryn sat at the table and listened. She occasionally read the comments as they came in, however, her face changed when she seemingly came across a nasty comment directed at her.
Post her meltdown, Cathryn Li addressed in an Instagram post where she apologised for her loss of control and disgraceful manners. She also admitted that she was wrong and needs to improve her emotional intelligence. Yesterday (14 March), Cathryn posted a picture on her Instagram with visible wounds and bloodstains around her neck.
“Yesterday late at night, I was overwhelmed emotionally and wrapped a wire thinking to end this pain. The line was too thin and it broke, at the moment I was scared because I can’t even kill myself. I was a mess emotionally the whole night.
Wanting to end your life needs courage, and wanting to continue living needs bigger courage, because my every move keeps being put on blast.”
She also added that she’s not perfect, she makes mistakes and she’s not a ‘Goddess’ but everyone expects her to be perfect all the time.
“Sometimes I make mistakes, unable to control my emotions, and I can’t catch my breath for these past days as people keep criticising me, as if they want me to die. Some people even propped themselves up high to step on me, I can’t climb out of this situation and I’ve no road left to go.”
I’m just a normal human being, I can still feel fear, and I can still feel tired, no matter how strong a heart is it can still break.”
Since the post, Cathryn’s Instagram has been relatively silent but Instagram users have been sending her words of encouragement and even praised her for being emotionally strong.
No matter what happens, suicide is never an option. We hope Cathryn rises from this and bounces back stronger than ever. If you’re having suicidal thoughts, you can seek help from Befrienders at its website or call 03-7627 2929. Free and confidential support is available 24 hours, every day.
