There’re a few ways to get to an island including taking a boat and swimming there. But is it possible to walk to an island?
If you’re at the right place at the right time, you can! In the annual Sandbar Walk event that started yesterday and will end today, visitors at Tanjung Rhu Beach, Langkawi took the once-in-a-year opportunity to walk from the beach to nearby islands.
The walk to Pulau Kelam Baya, an island right in front of Tanjung Rhu Beach is approximately 600m and there is also an option to walk further to Pulau Cabang, an island next to Pulau Kelam Baya.
What is the Sandbar Walk?
“But how can one walk to an island?” you may ask. Well, the Sandbar Walk is a yearly low-tide phenomenon during which the sea level at Tanjung Rhu Beach drops to a maximum of 0.0 metre. This will appear as if the sea is being “parted” into two!
When this happens, a magical sandbar connecting the islands will appear, enabling visitors a chance to walk to the connecting islands and explore various species of marine life closely.
According to Tanjung Rhu Resort, the phenomenon can only be witnessed on 21 and 22 February between 6.45am and 7.30am.
This is so cool! Would you travel to Langkawi just to experience this natural wonder?
