The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has confirmed that a BMW driver had crashed into a man, causing his death while driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to a report by Kosmo, the Seri Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak, shared that the 25-year-old BMW driver has been remanded for 4 days, starting yesterday (Sunday – April 13), to assist in further investigations.

This incident occurred at around 2:10am on the same day, when the man, 37-year-old Mohd. Taufik Ariff Sariff, had stopped to help a motorcyclist involved in an accident at Jalan Johor Bahru-Kota Tinggi.

“The motorcyclist, who was travelling from Johor Bahru to Taman Setia Tropika, is believed to have skidded off and suffered serious injuries before being confirmed dead at the scene. At the same time, a 37-year-old local man helped to move the motorcyclist out of traffic before help arrived,” Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said.

His last noble act

Unfortunately, while helping the accident victim, the man was hit by a 25-year-old BMW driver. The man sustained serious injuries and passed away at the scene.

The man’s wife shared, “My husband had just gotten out of the car to help the accident victim, when I suddenly heard a bang. People told me my husband had been hit by a car.”

“We got married in September of last year. We had just created beautiful memories together during Hari Raya, because it was the first time we celebrated Hari Raya with our family after becoming husband and wife. I can’t believe he is gone.”

The driver has been arrested

The BMW driver has been arrested at the scene, and a breathalyser test found that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. This case is now being investigated under Section 41(1) and Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Videos of the general public confronting the drunk driver, while accusing him of attempting to flee the scene, have since gone viral online.
