In July, Malaysians were shocked by the news that Datuk Lee Chong Wei had to go through a 2-month treatment in Taiwan for a dangerous respiratory disease that might threaten his career.

The Star reported on Thursday (20 Sep) that the National No. 1 shuttler will be completing his medical treatment in one week’s time.

However, on Friday (21 Sep) night, a post on Facebook has gone viral, informing netizens that Datuk Lee Chong Wei was actually diagnosed with stage three nose cancer.

The post by Hishamuddin Abd Majid mentioned stated that,

“Our badminton legend, Dato Lee Chong Wei has detected with 3rd stage nose cancer.. At age of 35 years old, so fit and rich but suddenly having problem in breathing, go to Taiwan and a specialist discovered he has 3rd stage nose cancer. [sic]”

He went on saying that life is unpredictable and pray that Datuk Lee Chong Wei will remain strong to fight the cancer.

This latest update on DLCW’s condition has not been confirmed by any party, and many Malaysians are currently speculating that it’s a rumour.

DLCW nor those who are close to him have yet to speak out about this speculation. So, let’s all just take it with a pinch of salt for now!

Besides that post on Facebook, there are no reports on DLCW’s condition in the local papers, nor were there any mentions that he suffered from cancer to begin with!

Although the post is not concrete, it has managed to draw some attention and garnered a lot of well wishes from Malaysians who expressed their concern and love towards the national hero, praying for his recovery.

The only current news we got about DLCW is a brief update from BAM secretary, Datuk Ng Chin Chai. Quoted by The Star, he said:

“His treatment will be completed by next week. He should be back in Malaysia after two weeks. Then, he will rest for one month at home. The doctor will assess his condition again and if he gets the green light, he is expected to start his workout in November.”

We hope that whatever condition or disease that Datuk Lee Chong Wei is going through, he will be strong and recover well. Take some rest Datuk, you have sacrificed enough for the country.
