It’s heartwarming to see how Malaysians from all walks of life are coming together to save the country. #NewMalaysia
Earlier today (6 June), Berjaya Corp Bhd founder and executive chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan surprisingly offered to build a new airport on Pulau Tioman that will not incur any financial burden to the federal government.
Vincent said this gesture is a way to help the Pakatan Harapan government as they are now facing a massive national debt no thanks to Barisan Nasional.
“We are looking at the Tioman Airport project. We understand the country’s finances are not in the best shape now. We are willing to work with partners, to privatise and finance it, but the government can arrange it.
“We will not burden the government because I think anyone who wants to run an infrastructure project needs to find its own financing and not just ask the government,” he said during a press conference.
He added that the project is estimated to cost between RM1.1 billion and RM1.2 billion, which would be financed through the group’s internal funds and loans. As expected, this news went viral on social media and Malaysians were touched by the tycoon’s generous gesture.
However, some skeptical netizens are thinking that there may be a hidden agenda behind this project and urged the government to opt for open tender. Hmm…
At the time of writing, the government has yet to respond to Vincent’s offer. Hopefully, the government would consider accepting this generous offer, provided that everything is transparently done without any strings attached.
Kudos to you, Vincent!
