In an effort to distance itself from the once iconic Victoria’s Secret Angels, the lingerie and clothing company is rebranding itself to appeal to all types of women through the company’s latest collection called ‘Love Cloud’ which features 24-year-old Sofia Jirau, the first ever Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome.
As reported by NPR, Sofia Jirau, who is also Latina and hailed from Puerto Rico said that being part of the Love Cloud collection is a dream come true and posted on her Instagram page with a caption in Spanish that reads, “I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down Syndrome!”
She further asserted,
“One day I dreamed of it, I worked on it and today it is a dream come true. I can finally tell you my big secret,”
Jirau made her debut at New York Fashion Week in February 2020 and said that she is proud to be one of the few models with Down syndrome who has managed to participate in the important fashion event. Furthermore, Jirau is also focused on ‘conquering the runways’ in Europe in 2022 besides modelling in the United States.
The Love Cloud collection launched last Thursday (17 February 2022) in which Victoria’s Secret said is part of its commitment to ‘sophisticated comfort’. Furthermore, it’s a major moment in the brand’s evolution that brings an incredible inclusive spirit that is an important part of the new Victoria’s Secret standard that the company is creating.
Moreover, the Love Cloud collection also features 17 other women described by the company as being from a ‘myriad of backgrounds’, which include Celilo Miles, a wildland firefightier for the Nez Perce Tribe, Jailyn Matthews, a fitness trainer and Hailey Bieber.
