Just yesterday, the Malaysia Budget & Business Hotel Association (MyBHA) asserted that there were no laws or regulations in Malaysia that prescribe hotels, or any accommodation operators, on what time check-in and check-out should be done.
This comes after Malaysians and tourists alike said they would rather travel overseas, especially to Thailand, than support local tourism and would choose to boycott local hotels over 4pm check-in and 11am check-out times.
Now, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) has spoken up, saying that they understand the people’s concerns but we should read the terms and conditions set by the hotel or any accommodation operators, before making any bookings to avoid misunderstandings.
They wrote, “MOTAC is monitoring this issue more closely and is also paying serious attention to relevant hospitality industry operators to provide clarification on this matter. Media statements have already been issued by the Malaysia Budget & Business Hotel Association (MyBHA) and the Malaysian Tourism Federation (MTF) as further clarification.”
“MOTAC would also like to advise the public to always read and understand the terms and conditions set by the hotel before making a reservation. This step is important to avoid any misunderstandings or dissatisfaction, especially concerning pricing and services provided.”
Malaysians took to the comment section of MOTAC’s post to share their disappointment with how the government agency is handling this matter.
“Thank you for this media statement that does not bring any benefits. So, don’t blame us for going for holiday in Hatyai after this.”
“If these are the contents, they might as well don’t release a statement.”
“The most useless press release ever.”
“We asked for a solution. If it just about reading the terms and conditions of the hotel, everyone already knows that, they don’t need to teach us.”
What do you think of MOTAC’s response to people asking for better check-in and check-out timings among Malaysian accommodation operators?
