1MDB’s most wanted fugitive, Jho Low, has reportedly resurfaced, but not in the way you might expect.

According to American journalists Tom Wright and Bradley Hope, Jho Low is allegedly hiding in a mansion in Shanghai, China. The billionaire is said to be using a fake Australian passport under a fake Greek name to conceal his identity.

Could this be why PDRM has struggled to locate him? Back in 2021, the former Home Affairs Minister admitted that tracking Jho Low had proven difficult, despite his status on Interpol’s Red Notice list.

But Jho Low isn’t just lying low. Wright and Hope claim he’s now working as a “behind-the-scenes strategist” for the Chinese government, allegedly helping sanctioned companies navigate global restrictions.

In a recent YouTube livestream titled Finding Jho Low, the duo revealed they obtained intel on his whereabouts from multiple sources. Wright and Hope are also the authors of the bestselling exposé Billion Dollar Whale, which detailed the 1MDB scandal. Former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin joined the podcast discussion.

Low, who faces charges in both Malaysia and the US for allegedly orchestrating the theft of US$4.5 billion from 1MDB, was previously believed to be in Macau, though Beijing has denied offering him protection.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed that the government has not given up on tracking down the fugitive and has urged all relevant authorities to intensify efforts to bring him to justice.
