A dimsum restaurant in Penang received a surprise visit from the City Council recently for operating illegally.
The unlicensed business was operating from a house.

In an official statement by the City Council yesterday (March 8), the Dimsum restaurant located in a house at Barat Daya was raided by the officers around 9 am, and many items, such as the signboard, furniture, gas cylinders, and kitchen utensils, were confiscated and brought back to the City Council office for further actions.
Dining tables were placed outside the house, and the meals were prepared in the kitchen.

This strict enforcement action was taken under the offence of MPPP Food Establishment By-Laws 1991, where the operator was found to be conducting business activities without a valid license from the Council.

“The Penang City Council will continue to take strict enforcement actions and legal measures against any operators conducting business activities without a valid license from this administration.”
The City Council also shared a short video showing the restaurant being raided and items getting confiscated.
