A female student at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Machang campus was killed after being hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road inside the campus.

In the incident at about 6:20 PM, the 19-year-old victim, a third-semester student from the Faculty of Management and Business, died at the scene due to head injuries.

Polis

Machang District Police Chief, Superintendent Ahmad Shafiki Hussin, said preliminary investigations revealed that a Honda RS-X 150 motorcycle ridden by a male student from the Faculty of Accountancy was on its way from the main gate of UiTM Machang campus back to the dormitory.

Confirmed dead at the scene

According to him, as the motorcycle was climbing a hill, the victim, who was from Marang, Terengganu, is believed to have suddenly crossed the road.

“This caused the 20-year-old rider, from Shah Alam, Selangor, to swerve left but still collided with the victim.”

“The female student fell onto the road divider and suffered head injuries before being confirmed dead at the scene,” he said when contacted by reporters.

“Preliminary findings show the device was still in her ear after the accident.”

Ahmad Shafiki said the victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Department of Machang Hospital for a post-mortem.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic loss.
