Career transitions can be daunting, but with grit, the right support system, and a passion for learning, no dream is out of reach!
In an inspiring post on Threads, user ahming__, a young Malaysian barista, shared the wonderful news of successfully transitioning from making handcrafted coffee behind the counter to stepping into the classroom as a school teacher.

“This barista onthewayyyyy (on the way) jadi cikgu!” he wrote proudly alongside a picture of his official offer letter overlaid on a photo of him working behind the coffee bar.
Practised mock teaching at home after work shifts
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Amin opened up about how he navigated the intense preparation process while working full-time as a barista.
He was fortunate enough to work alongside two supportive fellow baristas who held education degrees and had already navigated the rigorous teacher selection process.
“Unlike me, they had already graduated with degrees in education, so they had experience with teaching and teacher interviews.
“Since my interview involved a mock teaching session, I learned a lot by asking them questions and seeking their advice, from preparing for the Ujian Kelayakan Calon Guru (UKCG) to getting ready for the interview itself,” Amin shared with WORLD OF BUZZ.
With only about a week to prepare for his assessment, Amin dedicated his evenings after grueling café shifts to practicing his teaching methods at home.
After finishing his shifts, Amin said he would spend his evenings practising teaching at home. He said having friends who were already familiar with the process and had since become teachers themselves made a huge difference, as their guidance and encouragement helped him prepare with more confidence.
Both of his supportive barista colleagues have since successfully received their official school postings as educators as well!

Teaching 6-to-7-year-olds under new government initiative
Under a new government education initiative, Amin will be assigned to teach young pupils transitioning from age 6 into age 7.
When asked about the subjects he hopes to teach, Amin expressed enthusiasm for Bahasa Melayu and Physical and Health Education (PJK).
“I have a strong foundation in Bahasa Melayu from my STPM studies, and I would love to help pupils develop their language skills and confidence in communicating.
“As for PJK, football has always been something I enjoy. I would love to share that passion with my pupils by teaching them the basic techniques of playing football correctly, while encouraging teamwork, discipline, and an active lifestyle,” Amin explained.

“Determination makes all the difference”
Reflecting on his journey, Amin hopes his story will encourage others who feel constrained by their current job or unconventional background.
“My journey may be different from others, but it has taught me that where you start doesn’t have to determine where you end up.
“Sometimes, all you need is the willingness to learn, the courage to try, and the determination to keep going.” he said.
