At this point, Uncle Kentang needs no introduction as he’s well known for helping the needy, regardless of their background. However, his recent post has caused suspicions among many Malaysians who believe that the 65-year-old who he’s helping does not actually need help.

On 14 February, Uncle Kentang shared an image on Facebook that shows him and a 65 year old woman whose face is censored and claimed that she’s jobless and is about to be homeless.

“Nobody wants to hire her, and her landlord is giving her 3 days before he chases her out of the house,” Uncle Kentang explained.

He added that the woman has no family and is not married, and she only has a 75-year-old brother who has been sent to the old folk’s home. He also said that the aunty is willing to be admitted into one of the old folks’ homes in PJ.

“If there’s any good samaritans who’s willing to sponsor her monthly rental of Rm300, do let me know,” Uncle Kentang said.

“Looks too young to be 65”

The post was filled with many comments but not the ones with offers to help her. Many eagle-eyed Malaysians noticed that the woman who is claimed to be 65 years old doesn’t look her age, and sarcastically questioned her skincare routine.

Some netizens also pointed out that the aunty may not need much help as she can still afford to have a drink in a fancy coffee house.

“Aunty, which skincare do you use? Can you introduce to me?”

“My dad is 70, and he’s still doing some gardening.”

“Aunty, your skin looks so smooth. Which skincare centre do you visit?”

“Her skin looks smoother than mine.”

“The tea she’s drinking is more expensive than what I’m drinking.”

“Wow, and she’s still drinking coffee in a cafe.”

“It’s the lighting of the place that makes her look young”

On the same night, Uncle Kentang responded to all the negative comments and criticism by explaining what actually happened. According to him, they did not choose the location to have their discussion.

“It was going to rain and there was no other place. The cafe’s owner let us in.”

He also explained that the lighting and the decoration of the cafe have made the 65-year-old aunty look much younger in the picture.

“Thanks to the lighting and the decoration, she doesn’t look 65. That’s also the cafe’s most picture-worthy spot,” he said.

At the end of his post, Uncle Kentang ‘thanked’ netizens for their negative comments and urged others to help the aunty.
