In recent months, a number of huge revelations were revealed as a result of various court cases in relation to the misappropriation of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds by a number of alleged parties.
One of the biggest revelations was the alleged amount of money that former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had received at the time.
Based on reports, Najib had claimed that the RM2.6 billion which had previously entered his bank account was a donation from the royal family of Saudi Arabia.
Although it is alleged that this was linked to the misappropriation of 1MDB funds, some people refuse to believe so.
Recently, a TikTok video of a speech by UMNO Bukit Gantang’s Youth Chief went viral. In his speech, Mohammad Sollehin Mohd Tajie explained to listeners why Najib had received the said money from Saudi Arabia.
In his speech, Sollehin doesn’t deny the fact that RM42 million was indeed found in Najib’s bank account. He also refuted the fact that Najib had said that he didn’t realise that the RM42 million was in his bank account.
However, he went on to explain that Najib then said he didn’t realise as there was a total of RM2.6 billion in his bank account which is money he received from Saudi Arabia.
“Why did he receive money from Saudi? It’s because if we recall correctly, when Egypt, Syria and Libya were fighting, Saudi Arabia was scared that the ‘Arab Spring’ would also happen (in their nation).”
“The ruler of Saudi met with Najib and told him that he is fond of how Najib was handling Malaysia. Because in Malaysia, there are no extremists like in those Arab countries. And he wanted UMNO to stay in power so he gave a donation,” he explained.
He then said, “People might question why would the Arabs donate that much to us. It’s not weird because they gave RM7 billion to Pakistan.”
“So RM2.6 billion and RM42 million is like 2000 and 4 sen for them. The 2000, anyone would notice if it entered their bank account, however, who would notice the 4 sen?”
“It’s like a TV3 drama”
The video has gone viral on TikTok as well as other social media platforms. On TikTok, it currently sits on over 353,500 views at the time of writing.
Netizens found Sollehin’s explanation extremely amusing and ridiculous and made jokes about it.
“The Arabs know that UMNO is a party.”
Another commented, “Why weren’t you a witness during the trial?”
“(His explanation) can be made into a TV3 drama“, said a user, whilst another said, “Could be made into a comedy sitcom“.
