After falling at his residence on 6 January, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad sustained a fracture to his right hip, as confirmed by his press secretary, Sufi Yusoff.
Today (10 January), Sufi released an update on the former Prime Minister’s condition, suggesting that a full recovery may take some time.

“Tun Mahathir’s recovery process is expected to take a long time”
In his statement, Sufi revealed that despite the injury, no surgery will be performed. Instead, Tun Mahathir will undergo physiotherapy. The decision was made following a thorough discussion with experts at the National Heart Institute (IJN), where the former Prime Minister is currently receiving treatment.
Tun Mahathir, who turned 100 last year, is expected to take some time to recover from his injury due to his old age.
At present, no one is allowed to visit him at the hospital, with the exception of family members.
“Tun Mahathir and his family would like to thank everyone for their concern and their prayers for his well-being.”

He fell at his residence on 6 January at around 7:30 AM, before he was headed to his office. Last year, Tun Mahathir was also admitted to IJN due to fatigue after attending a potluck event at the Putrajaya park, where he cycled.
