A recent post has caught the attention of many netizens after a firefighter shared a heartbreaking story on social media about a dog found lifeless by the roadside in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

On his Facebook page, he recalled coming across a dog with half its body covered in a black plastic bag, describing the scene as “as if its life never mattered.”

A plea for compassion

The Facebook user later shared his disappointment, claiming the dog’s life was taken by the actions of a human.

“Just yesterday, firefighters worked tirelessly to rescue a dog that had fallen into a drain. But today, it’s heartbreaking to see another dog lying lifeless by the roadside, its body covered with a black plastic bag as if its life never mattered.

“In one place, humans are working hard to save lives; in another, there are humans willing to take the life of an innocent being,” he wrote.

He went on to emphasise that animals deserve the same respect as humans, reminding everyone that they also feel pain, fear, and hunger.

“Even a stray dog has value in this world”

The user also urged pet owners that if they can’t properly care for their animals, they should at least avoid harming them.

“It cannot speak. It cannot ask for sympathy. It’s just a creature that wants to live, like every other being in this world,” he added.

He shared his hope that the story would remind people to open their hearts and recognise that even a stray dog has value in this world.

“If you cannot love animals, at least don’t hurt them. The worth of a human heart isn’t measured by words, but by how they treat those weaker than themselves.”

Netizens’ reactions

“Revenge will follow, and karma will catch up with others. They will surely face severe illness with no cure, horrific accidents, bankruptcy, and long-term unemployment.”

“I absolutely hate people who hurt animals, especially dogs, and even more so those who go as far as to kill them. Such rotten hearts.”

“How cruel humans can be. If you can’t show them love, at least offer a little compassion to these creatures sharing this world with us. Their lives are so short.”

“Why are so many people cruel to these animals nowadays? They don’t get enough sleep, enough food, or enough love. And yet they are still killed and abused. My heart can’t take it. I hope karma comes quickly to those who have hurt them.”
