Just hours after the first official meeting between cabinet members, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has already given updates about some major changes that will be taking place.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today (23rd May), the prime minister has clarified that the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will be officially disbanded and absorbed by the Ministry of Transport, according to the Malay Mail.

He stated that the commission will be abolished soon and that its duties will be transferred to the transport ministry instead. The prime minister was quoted by The Star as saying,

“Most of these institutions are not actually part of the government, and are supposed to advise the government. All these (institutions) will be disbanded.”

“We are studying which one we will have to scrap, which one we will continue, which one we will defer to a later date.”

Our new Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke Siew Fook, has also promised to look into the disappearance of MH370 while the next-of-kin of the flight’s passengers have also urged the new government to do so.

Well, let’s hope this means a much more organised public transport system for Malaysia!
