So, with Pakatan Harapan (PH) officially in power, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is wasting no time in getting to work!
In a press conference today (11th May), the newly sworn-in Prime Minister mentioned that we could be getting a new attorney-general (AG), as Mohamed Apandi Ali could no longer be AG soon.
According to Malaysiakini, when asked about the 1MDB scandal, Tun Dr Mahathir responded,
“We have to look into who is the attorney-general. At the moment, the attorney-general has undermined his own credibility. He has, in fact, hidden evidence of wrongdoing and that is wrong in law.”
The 1MDB scandal has been the topic of widespread scrutiny throughout former Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s administration. However, in 2016, AG Mohamed Apandi had cleared him of any wrongdoing despite having RM2.6 billion in his bank accounts.
The former Prime Minister dismissed any wrongdoing, stating that the large sum of money was nothing but a donation from Saudi royalty.
Well, let’s see what is to become of the current AG, and who will be replacing him in the future!
