Living abroad is never easy, but finding comfort in familiar things away from home, strangely, helps most of us get through.
Taking to TikTok, this netizen shared how easy it is to access Malaysian goodies in Chicago.
“Come with me to get some Malaysian groceries in Chicago,” she shared.
“Chin Land Asian Food Market is actually a Burmese grocery store in Chicago, and it is nearby my work place so I stopped by to grab some shallots, because I am making sambal sotong.“
“Everyone seems to think that I have no access to Malaysian groceries and only eat American food, but my mom is a very talented cook, just like many Malaysian Americans that live here, so I grew up on Malaysian food.,” she added.
She explained, “I’m definitely lucky to live in a major city with a sizeable Southeast Asian community, so I can enjoy this.”
In the comments section, most Malaysians who were commenting asked about the price.
“How much was the Milo? For this can size, it is usually $14 – $19.”
“If you didn’t mention that this store is in Chicago, I would’ve thought it was in a Felda somewhere,” commented a user.
