The pandemic has taken a toll on most businesses which has resulted in many being retrenched and unemployed. Since the first MCO that happened last year, many resorted to opening their own small businesses to make ends meet.
This story, in particular, caught our attention when a video posted by a young girl named Tilla circulated all over TikTok and went viral.
In the video, Tilla filmed a short TikTok video introducing her new family business that her parents and siblings have started together. But what makes it so inspiring is that they opened up a small burger stall called ‘Bay-6 Burgers’ right in their garden!

How It All Started…
World of Buzz had the privilege of speaking to Tilla and she tells us how it has been quite a journey for her and her family.
“Due to the MCO, my father hadn’t been getting many flights. He works as a flight attendant for MAB (formerly, MAS) and has been working there for 27 years. My father used to get 10-12 flights a month whereas now he only gets 1 or 2. He is the sole breadwinner for our family of 5 hence we were put in a very tight spot to make ends meet,” she told World of Buzz.
“My mother used to sell cupcakes when we were younger but stopped due to the lack of demand. Since both my parents work in FnB, they decided to sell nasi lemak from home a month ago just to help with the family income,” she said.
Hence, they decided to renovate the garden of their home by themselves; removing the wired fences, building a new wall fence with a side gate. All to which her parents did to sell nasi lemak out from.
“My brothers, Johan Aizey and Kamal Aizey work at a nearby cafe. Upon working there, they found passion in FnB too. It was my eldest brother, Johan, who decided to start the burger business, Bay-6,” she said.
It was then when her parents immediately equipped the garden with a kitchen so they could start the business.
The Business: Bay-6 Burgers
Tilla and her family started selling burgers on the 25 December and at that time they started off with just a few choices of burgers.
“We started off with just classic beef and chicken burgers but now have slowly expanded to 12 different burger options for you to choose from,” Tilla told World of Buzz.
The family delegated the task among themselves to ensure the business runs smoothly.
“We’ve always known to do things as a unit be it painting the house, renovating the garden to cooking big meals. Everyone pitches in and everyone has a part in the whole matter,” she said.
“My eldest brother Johan, is in charge of cooking burgers, Kamal is in charge of the preparation of burgers, my parents do the managing and pre-work and I handle the social media aspect of things,” Tilla explained. Such efficiency!
Before the recent MCO was implemented, Bay-6 Burgers was operating between 5pm to 10pm every Friday to Sunday. Customers could even dine in right in their front yard!

“Currently, we do take pre-orders and take-aways. Our new business hours are 4pm-8pm from Thursday to Sunday,” Tilla said.
“We are also glad that our neighbours and community are very supportive of our business. We get neighbours cycling and jogging to the front of our house to order burgers for their family,” she added on to say.
Bay-6 Burgers is located at Jalan Anggerik Aranda 31/19, Kota Kemuning. If you would like to give Bay-6 Burgers a try, you can now order through Foodpanda and GrabFood.
