Two Malaysian children from Sungai Petani, Kedah recently went viral on social media due to their unique names that appear to be rather ‘fruity’, which is, of course, is unusual unless your parents are celebrities or something.
According to NST, the father, Abi Amin Mahayadin said that his grandfather had always wanted the opportunity to name his great grandchildren, and hence, the couple agreed to his request.
“My grandfather wanted to name his great grandchildren. Out of respect, we went along with his wishes. We were made to understand that the names have their own special meanings,” the father said.
So, the couple’s six-year-old boy was named after the king of fruits, as Muhammad Dhury Yan, while their one-year-old daughter was named Nur Rambutt’an, after the rambutan fruit. Contrary to what most people would think, their unique names have no connection whatsoever to their great grandfather’s favourite fruits.
“We believe there are hidden meanings to the names as they are spelt differently from the fruits,” the father added.
With such unique names, it’s no surprise that the children’s MyKid cards went viral on social media. Unfortunately, the family have been subjected to cyberbully.
“We were shocked when we learnt that the pictures were being shared on WhatsApp and Facebook. We’re not angry with those who shared the pictures.
“However, we are disappointed by the comments by some people, which have offended our family. We hope that the public would not judge us and instead, respect our wishes,” the father said.
Why can’t you guys just be happy for the family?
It was understood that the family had welcomed their latest child last month and they’re still thinking of a name for the baby.
Do you guys have any suggestions for their new baby’s name? Remember, be respectful guys!
