It’s no secret that our Minister of Defence, Haji Mohamad bin Sabu (aka Mat Sabu) has become pretty popular among Malaysian netizens ever since the 14th general election. However, it seems that one MP doesn’t share the same sentiments, and recently expressed his feelings about our Defence Minister.
According to Free Malaysia Today, former prime minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak recently expressed his doubts over Mat Sabu’s ability to carry out his responsibilities in the ministry.

The Pekan MP called out Mat Sabu in a recent speech during a campaign event for Barisan Nasional in Sungai Kandis for the upcoming by-election, telling the audience,
“Our defence minister is a cartoon. He wears the beret like a cartoon. He gets into the warship and talks about fish curry.”
“You are the defence minister. Talk about the country’s defence policies, not about fish curry. This is not defence minister material. This is a joker.”
Najib, who also used to be Minister of Defence twice in the past, added that he is not confident in Mat Sabu’s ability to connect with other bodies abroad, like the United States Secretary of Defence, for example.

“I cannot guarantee it if Mat Sabu is facing the defence secretary of the US, because he will be talking about fish. The defence secretary will be in a daze. He would ask, ‘What standards do we have in Malaysia?’ Strange, this type of person can become a minister.”
The former prime minister referenced Mat Sabu’s culinary background, as he has cooked for events on multiple occasions. However, he did share with The Star that he had no time to fish or cook anymore due to his demanding role in the Ministry of Defence.
