So, this is a question for everyone who’s been panicking about the Covid-19 outbreak. Why is everyone’s first response about this seem to be to stock up on toilet paper? Not canned goods, not mineral water but toilet paper. Well, in this couple’s case, the obsession over toilet paper was what brought them together during these difficult times.
Japanese Twitter user @shihon029 shared her rom-com moment in a drugstore where she was buying the very last pack of toilet paper. Just as she was paying for it, she heard a guy asking one of the shop clerks if there was any stock left and disappointedly sighing that there weren’t any more toilet paper rolls left.

That’s when our heroine looks over and sees that the guy is just right up her alley. So, she decides to shoot her shot and offered two rolls of toilet roll from the pack she just purchased. In an extremely generous move, she even offered him more if he happened to have a big family but he was fine with two rolls as he also….lives alone.
THAT WAS SMOOTH!
It didn’t take them long to exchange contact numbers and soon after, he messaged her on the Line app.
“Thank you for flagging me down. You really saved me. I’d like to properly show my gratitude, so would you be willing to go to dinner together? If that’s something you’d like to do, that is.”
Even Shi Hon was bemused and asked in a later tweet if this is really happening and is she really gonna be dating a guy whom she met over a toilet paper shortage.
Well my advice to her is that this is literally the best thing that could’ve happened in the worst-case scenario. And who knows, if it all works out, this would be one quirky story to tell their kids. Hollywood, please take note of this meet-cute for your next romantic comedy!
