Singapore has recently introduced its first-ever ‘bus stop-gym’ which not only allows commuters to exercise while waiting for their rides but also charge their smartphones at the same time. Located at 20 Boon Lay Drive, Singapore Minister for National Development Desmond Lee shared the initiative, called ‘Recharge’ on his official Instagram account on 23 November 2022.
A collaboration between the Singapore University of Technology and Design’s (SUTD) SOULab, Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Singapore Ministry of Health Office for Healthcare Transformation (MOHT), the initiative is currently in its two-week trial starting from 21 November to 5 December 2022. Moreover, Recharge will also reward residents with SGD30 or approximately RM98 NTUC vouchers if they hit 150 min exercise per week.
As reported by CNA, the initiative is currently only open to residents of Boon Lay. Besides that, eligible participants who sign up will also receive NTUC vouchers.
Individuals that join the initiative will be issued a Bluetooth card to tap on the podium at the bus stop when they start to exercise. The card will also track their activities and coins accumulated.
