This news will make bubble tea lovers extra bubbly!
A new bubble tea shop called Yumcha Tea Bar has just opened in Bandar Sunway and WORLD OF BUZZ was invited for the pre-opening sneak peek to try out their signature drinks! But before we spill the tea about our top picks, here’s a quick trivia about Yumcha Tea Bar.
The founder, Voon told us that instead of competing with giant bubble tea companies, they focus mainly on using homegrown ingredients to incorporate Malaysian flavours into their beverages. Plus, did we mention that they make their own matcha boba from scratch in their central kitchen and also use natural sugar instead of glucose solution?
Anyway, here are our top picks and why we love them so much.
1. Golden Cha With Golden Boba
Five of us tried it and we unanimously agreed that this was our favourite drink out of the lot. It’s so simple yet so addictive. Think milk tea, but with the tea aroma boosted up to the maximum and the sugar level reduced by 25 per cent. The owner said the soothing tea aroma comes from the organic black tea imported from the UK.
After tasting this, you will never look at regular milk tea ever again.

2. Hot Cocoa Bo
Chocolate lovers, this one’s for you! This beverage is the perfect indulgence for bookworms on rainy days. Basically, you dip a solid dark chocolate ball into a cup of warm milk and watch as it melts away. In the meantime, you can always take a bite off the solid chocolate ganache to melt all your worries away.
In short, you get the rich taste of the chocolate minus the overpowering sweetness in a warm cup of milk. If you don’t have chicken soup for your soul, this hot cocoa bo will do the job perfectly.

3. Milo Macchiatto
Our in-house Milo connoisseur, Tara has pretty high standards for any Milo-related beverages and this macchiato received a solid nod from her. The foam on top was incredibly rich and kind of tastes like vanilla ice cream. The owner wouldn’t tell us how the foam was made but we believe the secret ingredient is passion.
When thoroughly mixed together with Milo, it seriously reminded us of the glorious chocolate malt drink flowing out from Milo trucks.
Pro tip: The right way to drink it is to poke a hole and sip on the foam first before mixing it.

4. Dirty Milk Cha With Boba
Instead of using brown sugar like how other giant companies do, Yumcha uses gula Melaka, which made us reminisce the good ol’ times of sipping cendol under a shady tree. The gula Melaka blends brilliantly with the bubble tea. However, it was a tad too sweet for our liking but the good thing is – the sweetness can be adjusted according to your preference.
If sago gula Melaka and cendol had a baby, this is how it would taste like.

5. Pink Matcha
The thick matcha liquid and homemade strawberry puree used in this combo are a match made in heaven. Both the sweetness and aroma levels were simply spot-on. Honestly, it’s just a bloody good all-rounder beverage.
On the other hand, the homemade matcha boba is very different from other mass-produced boba. These ones that are made in-house have a slightly harder texture and somewhat reminds us of tang yuan (glutinous rice ball).

6. Pink Galaxy
If you’re looking for a refreshing drink on a scorching day, this one is definitely worth a try! The tea has just the right amount of sweetness to it along with a hint of peach and butterfly pea flavour. It has a very light, refreshing taste without any heavy dairy products to weigh it down. Plus, it’s one of the more aesthetically-pleasing drinks to boot!
