A Malaysian woman recently claimed she received a pack of food from a random uncle, who told her it contained ayam penyet and curry meat. However, the next day, she suspected the meat wasn’t what it was advertised to be.

What she initially believed to be beef curry turned out, according to her, to be monitor lizard meat.

Her bizarre story is currently going viral on Threads. According to the woman, she had just finished swimming in a river when an uncle approached her and handed her the food. She didn’t think much of it at the time and accepted the pack, only checking and reheating it the next morning.

That’s when she noticed something odd about the meat halfway through the meal.

She claimed to have seen scales on the meat, which had black skin. Suspicious of its texture and appearance, she searched online and compared it with various images. The results suggested it could be monitor lizard meat.

In her Threads post, she also mentioned that the uncle had waved at her and asked her to come forward before handing her the food. She didn’t inspect the contents immediately but refrigerated it before reheating it the next day. At one point, she suspected it might be porcupine meat, but online comparisons didn’t support that theory.

She clarified that the dish didn’t contain much monitor lizard meat, and there was nothing she could do since she had already eaten it.

Social media users were skeptical of her story, with many strongly advising against accepting food from strangers.

One user said, “My mum always reminds me not to eat food prepared by people we know, let alone strangers.”

“Do you always accept food from strangers?”

“How could you swallow that? I can’t even eat duck or rabbit,” another commented.

Would you have accepted food from people you have never met?
