Over the years, the famous murals in George Town, Penang, have faded due to the insane weather and more. But, fret not, for the original artist who created the murals is back in Malaysia to restore them!
Penang State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman, Wong Hon Wai, took to his Facebook page to showcase the mural restoration by Lithuanian street artist, Ernest Zacharevic.
He wrote, “Restoration work (has) started for 3 murals by Ernest Zacharevic at George Town. He first painted (the murals) in 2012 while I was EXCO in charge of Arts. 12 years later, our paths crossed again and I returned as the EXCO in charge of Arts.”
Ernest Zacharevic, who is married to Malaysian model Sheena Liam, has 3 iconic murals located on Armenian Street, Ah Quee Street and Cannon Street in George Town, namely ‘Children on a Bicycle’, ‘Children on a Chair’, and ‘Motorbike’, which he painted in 2012 as part of the George Town Festival.
We truly cannot wait to see these gorgeous murals revived once the restoration process is done!
