Terengganu Mufti Datuk Mohamad Sabri Harun today asserted that there is currently no pressing need to declare the controversial Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holdings (GISBH) group as a deviant group in the state.

This is because there are not many GISBH followers in Terengganu, and the teachings’ presence in the state is only isolated cases.

Sinar Harian quoted Mohamad Sabri as saying that GISBH’s followers and influence in Terengganu are not apparent and only isolated.

He added that even if there were issues with the group in the state, they have already left Terengganu on their own, though the authorities are still actively monitoring them.

Regardless, the Terengganu Mufti said that the issues will be discussed at the Terengganu Fatwa Committee after they’ve received a resolution from the Conference of Rulers.

Furthermore, his side will also be getting clarification from the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) first on the issue.

Currently, 6 states have declared GISBH as deviant, namely Perlis, Selangor, Pahang, Melaka, Sabah and Penang.
