Bullying can lead to detrimental consequences, even the loss of life as this tragic case of a 17-year-old girl in China who committed suicide because she was allegedly bullied by her classmates as they said she had body odour. Only cowards bully others!
According to Sina, the girl who was identified as Jia Jia, was studying in one of the schools in Beihai, Guangxi when her mother received a call from the school saying that her daughter had jumped off the sixth floor of the girls dormitory building in the incident that happened on August 10.
The shocked mother immediately rushed to the hospital to see her daughter but unfortunately, her daughter succumbed to her injuries and died. 🙁 Her mother, identified as Chen, grieved for her daughter and tried to find the reason behind her suicide as she had always been a bright and sensible girl.
Chen said, “I can’t sleep every night and I always go to her room to look at her things as I really hope that her spirit will come back and talk to me.”
She said she had talked to her daughter the day before her death and there was nothing unusual during their conversation as they had a rather close relationship. However, when she was going through her daughter’s things, she found a few pieces of paper that had suspiciously cryptic messages on them.
On one of them, Jia Jia had written, “Want to know why I will die? Because the most important thing in my life is gone, the thing I have been keeping for so many years”. In another piece of paper, she wrote, “Sixth floor, I am sure I can successfully complete it. All this time, I did not know why my mood was not stable; but now, I already found the reason”.
Another heartbreaking note that her mother found only said, “Mother, I was so scared at that time, my whole body was shaking”. It was then that her mother remembered how Jia Jia had told her that she was not very happy at school as the other students would tease her because she had body odour.
Chen said that Jia Jia also complained that the boys in her school would often form a circle around her and taunt her by asking “what was that strange smell?”. WTF, so mean! Meanwhile, the girls would exclude her from their activities and did not talk to her.
It was discovered that the school was aware of the “suicide notes” before Jia Jia’s death but denied it and said they only found out about them after the tragedy. They also disagreed that she died because she was bullied, as they reasoned that she was a rather introverted girl, so she did not talk much to her schoolmates.
Such an untimely death for such a young girl! May her soul rest in peace.
