We’ve all heard a bunch of nasty stories about taxi drivers over here in Malaysia. They are selective of customers and routes, they are rude, they overcharge, etc. Of course, not every taxi driver are bad.
In Singapore, thankfully most taxi drivers are amazing. Just like the taxi driver of the number plate SH9260P who did the most heartwarming thing.
A 5-months pregnant Jolene Liow was having an unfortunate day when she and her toddler got caught in a heavy downpour.
In her Facebook post, she shared how she didn’t bring an umbrella and although she was only 10 metres away from the bus stop, the rain is so heavy that she couldn’t run there.
“So, I squatted down next to Josh,” she wrote.
“Poor boy was getting drenched in his stroller. The both of us were stranded under the overhead bridge, soaking up rainwater by the minute, while passersby with umbrellas rushed by.”
Though everything it seemed like a horrible day and maybe even a week of falling ill for the mummy and baby, an angel came along.
“Then I saw this taxi stopping along Pei Wah Ave, and the uncle came out of the driver’s seat to grab an umbrella from his back seat, while it was still pouring.
“And then, he ran about 15 meters from his taxi towards me in the rain, handed me the umbrella, smiled and said, ‘Keep it!'”
Then he ran back to his cab drenched in rain. Jolene was so shocked from this random act of kindness that she could only muster a simple thank you the kind man.
“Really, thanks to him, my 14-month Joshie and my 5-month baby bump were saved from being utterly soaked in the rain.
“Because this hero decided it was more worthwhile to get himself drenched than to have a pregnant stranger and her child get wet.”
Jolene couldn’t even get the name of the awesome uncle thanks to the heavy downpour but luckily she got his car plate number down.
“Thankfully, I squinted hard enough to spy his car plate number, SH 9260 P! And so, I hope to find his contact if possible.”
The pregnant lady even wrote into the taxi’s company, Comfort, in search for the amazing guy’s contact details.
“Mr. Super Uncle of Comfort SH9260P who was driving along Pei Wah Ave this morning at 10AM, you’re da man!
“He clearly did it out of the goodness of his heart and was not expecting anything in return. But he deserves much more credit!”
Indeed, who would have expected anyone to do something so nice out of nowhere, especially from a complete stranger?
We too should be more like this amazing uncle and start doing random acts of kindness anywhere we go. The world will be a much more amazing place that way.
