Just last month, Syed Saddiq’s parents accused the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) of advising their son to support the Perikatan Nasional government if they wanted investigations against them to stop.
“They didn’t say anything about the government, but one thing I cannot forget is they told me I should tell my son to follow the current government so that we would not be probed anymore. Perhaps they were joking,” said Saddiq’s mother.
Although his mother was accused of making false claims and being a drama queen, recent audio recordings seem to shed some truth on her accusations.
During Syed Saddiq’s trial yesterday, the court allowed for several audio recordings between Syed Saddiq and MACC Senior Officer Tuan Mohd Ihsan Sapuan dated July 12 2021 at Saddiq’s house in Petaling Jaya to be played.
In their conversation, Tuan Ihsan spoke about some rather sensitive topics with Syed Saddiq regarding his case for the breach of trust of ARMADA funds amounting to RM1 million and the case of money laundering amounting to RM120,000.
MACC officer told Syed Saddiq to support the leadership of Muhyiddin Yassin
One of the issues highlighted was that Ihsan Sapuan had allegedly told Syed Saddiq to support Muhyiddin and the government at the time.
In the audio recording, Ihsan can be heard asking Saddiq if there are any requests by those at the top that he didn’t go through with.
Saddiq responded by saying that he isn’t a political detractor. To which Ihsan said, “Must follow Tan Sri Muhyiddin la?”.
He then told Saddiq that Muhyiddin likes him and asked him who was the one that brought Saddiq in, to which Saddiq responded that it was Muhyiddin.
The MACC as just a political tool
In the recording, Ihsan also said that he felt the MACC had become a victim and simply a tool due to the change of government.
“It’s like we’re forced to do other things,” he allegedly said.
Syed Saddiq was a “middleman” and a victim of political games
Ihsan also said that he agreed that Saddiq had become a middleman and was simply a victim of politics.
“I follow you on Instagram. I (can see) that you do your job, but you’ve become a victim, a middleman.”
