Getting together and breaking up with someone is all part and parcel of looking for love but it can be heartbreaking when a relationship ends. Some of us need longer to recuperate from a broken heart while others seem like they can jump back into the dating game immediately.

International online dating site, SweetRing recently conducted a survey on their mobile app asking 325 males and 325 females aged between 23 to 45 years old on their behaviour after they became single with surprising results.

In the press release to WORLD OF BUZZ, 75% of the men surveyed said that they would use dating apps almost immediately to get to know other potential partners while for women, 54% of them said that they needed half a year before they were ready to use dating apps again. Maybe they just want to enjoy some me time?

However, 69% of men said that they still missed their exes and most of the men aged 29 to 34 said that they would consider getting back with their exes because they were lonely. In contrast, 72% of women said that they would not even think about getting back with their exes as they were determined to live better without them and would throw away everything that belongs to them.

It seems that men cannot bear to be lonely as the survey found that 70% of men would usually allow only four to eight months before starting a new relationship. Only 20% of male respondents said that they did not mind waiting for more than 19 months. Women are better at handling loneliness and 80% of them can go for up to one year before they start a new relationship. In addition, just 20% of women said that they would download and use dating apps within one month after a breakup.

The survey also stated that 69% of male respondents said that they did not mind being friends with their exes and would still keep in touch with them but for Malaysian women, they said that they would only be friends with their exes on social media and nothing more.

SweetRing’s interesting survey found out the common reasons that caused Malaysian couples to break up as well, with 63% of men breaking up with their partners because they felt their financial ability was not good enough and could not provide a good future for them. However, from a female’s point of view, 66% of them said that they broke up because their significant others had cheated on them and they could not accept it.

Interestingly, 80% of Malaysian men and women in the survey agreed that they had somehow been influenced to break up with their significant others as their families did not think that their partners were good enough. When asked, 70% of men said that to heal a broken heart they would fill their time by making new friends through dating apps while another 27% said they choose to drown their sorrows in work. As for Malaysian women, 85% of them insisted that hanging out with their friends was the best way to get over an ex.
