Sunway Group, one of Southeast Asia’s leading conglomerates, dominated the esteemed Putra Brand Awards 2022 with five awards, including the most prestigious honour of the ceremony, the Putra Brand of the Year.

Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah also won the prestigious Putra Personality of the Year award, which celebrates his accomplishments in building one of Malaysia’s most iconic brands and recognises his lifelong commitment and contributions to nation-building through education, healthcare and sustainable development.

The five awards won were the group’s largest haul at the annual brand awards since its inception in 2010, bringing Sunway’s total awards won to 32, a reflection of the Group’s continuous product innovation, steadfast commitment to brand building through effective communication, and a strong demonstration of a genuine sense of corporate social responsibility.

The Putra Brand Awards 2022 saw Sunway Education Group bag the coveted Platinum award in the Education & Learning category, while both Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Property each took home the Bronze award in the Entertainment and Property categories respectively.

“It has been a long journey, with many ups and downs since the brand’s founding in 1974. I would like to pay tribute to the hard work, dedication and resilience of the entire Sunway family, who shaped the Group into a brand that is here to stay. On behalf of everyone at Sunway, thank you Malaysia for standing by us and placing your trust in us all these years,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, who is also the founder and trustee of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, which has awarded RM618 million in scholarships and grants to qualified Malaysians to date.

“I owe a great debt to my country for the opportunities it has given me. The success and growth of Sunway enabled me to set up a foundation dedicated to nation-building and giving back to society in an impactful manner. Everything we do now is for the future generation. It is my hope that what we are doing at Sunway and the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation will inspire others to join us in our mission to build a more progressive, sustainable and inclusive future for all,” Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah added.

For its latest iteration in 2022, the Putra Brand Awards received over 25,000 responses from the general Malaysian public during the eight-week voting period from end-September to mid-November. Consumers were invited to participate in the open-to-public voting survey that was published on 60 websites.

Launched in 2010 by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia (4A) in association with Malaysia’s Most Valuable Brands (MMVB), the Putra Brand Awards is the premier brand awards that recognizes brand building as an integral business investment, measured by consumer preference. It is also the only brand awards in the country endorsed by MATRADE and supported by the Malaysian Advertisers Association (MAA), the Media Specialists Association (MSA), and the Malaysian Digital Association (MDA).
