Study: 25 Cups Of Coffee No Worse For The Heart Than A Single Cup - World Of Buzz

Coffee makes the world go round.

That may sound like an exaggeration, but look at the lines at Starbucks when it opens in the morning. Or the instant Nescafe packets that fill up half the office rubbish bin – all evidence suggests that the entire human race is obsessed with coffee, and with the rise of hipster cafes on every corner, getting a good cup has never been easier. If you’re one of those coffee-obsessed people we’re talking about, you’re going to love what this brand new study says, which is –

You can safely consume up to 25(!) cups of coffee per day!

A new study funded by the British Heart Foundation says that drinking obscene amounts of coffee is no worse for your heart than a single cup of joe. With over 8,000 participants participating, the study aimed to discover the correlation, if any, between arteries becoming stiffer and coffee consumption. What they found was that the group of people who drank more than 3 cups daily, a number of which drank more than 25 cups daily, did not experience more artery stiffening than others in the study who only drank a cup a day.

Given the number of participants, Queen Mary University of London researchers took into consideration their age, smoking status, blood pressure, weight, diet and alcohol consumption, and made sure the participants underwent MRI heart scans and infrared pulse wave tests.

The results of the study haven’t been universally well-received, however, with director at the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research centre Dr. David Katz telling HuffPost that, “There is much more reason to be concerned about a host of other dose-related effects, from blood pressure elevation, to heart rate elevation, to cardiac dysrhythmias.”

“More importantly, extreme coffee consumption is likely to be associated with harms unrelated to the heart (or at least not directly related), such as insomnia, agitation, and possibly a range of other metabolic effects, from microbiome to bone density.”

While this study definitely sounds like good news, do take it slow on the coffee as there could be other side effects associated with excessive consumption. What do you think? How much coffee do you drink every day?
