When you go to the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint, you might see a doggo with a tan collar near the police checkpoint.

That doggo is a ‘voluntary customs police officer’ named Jonny who keeps a lookout for any lawbreakers at the checkpoint.

Now, Jonny lost his mother at a young age and he was always loitering near the checkpoint. At first, an army officer was taking care of the doggo but he was posted to Sabah.

So Mohd Shahril and his colleague, Mohamad Redzuan Sahat, both police officers, started taking care of Jonny along with the other army officers there.

Mohd Shahril then posted daily updates of their work together on TikTok and many netizens loved to see what Jonny got up to.

As of now, the doggo’s work scope includes:

  • Escorting pedestrians from being attacked by the other stray dogs,
  • Chasing and barking at vehicles that do not stop at roadblocks,
  • Go on patrol with the officers, and
  • Accompany officers to close the gate at 12.01am.

According to China Press and Harian Metro, it was revealed that Jonny is a very smart dog and when he gets scolded by any of the officers there, he will sulk and walk away.

It is also mentioned that Shahril’s aim when sharing those videos is to show that animals can also do a great job at work and they should be loved and respected.

We certainly agree with that! We hope that Jonny will continue doing what he does best and that his caretakers will shower him with the love he deserves.
