Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid has a message for members of the media regarding how she is portrayed in news reports, which she shared in a recent Instagram post.
“Stop addressing me as Zahid Hamidi’s daughter. I have my own identity, principles, and independence.”

Nurulhidayah expressed her desire not to be overshadowed by her father, stating that every individual deserves recognition and respect for their own name and efforts.
“The media often chooses to use the phrase ‘Zahid’s daughter’ in headlines or reports involving me, rather than mentioning my full name, Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid.”
She acknowledged her father’s identity and expressed pride in being his daughter, but emphasised the media’s responsibility to report fairly and respectfully.
“I am aware of who my father is, and I am proud to be the daughter of Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi. I believe the media has a duty to report accurately, fairly, and to respect each person’s identity—regardless of who their family members are.”
Nurulhidayah clarified that she has never demanded special treatment or respect, but simply requested that her name be used in media coverage, just as it is for others who share their views or contribute to community, political, or social work.

She also highlighted that ethical journalism, using individuals’ names, helps foster a culture of integrity, professionalism, and accuracy.
“I have never denied who my father is, but I will not allow my own name to be erased.”
