Malaysia may be a gorgeous country but have you seen the back alleys of Kuala Lumpur or Petaling Jaya? They would either make you want to puke or run for your life.

But, these back alleys don’t have to be dark and disgusting, as seen in the efforts done by the City Council of Penang (MBPP) to beautify their back lanes.

Netizen, @qazimzim, took to his TikTok account to showcase one of these back lanes and share his amazement at how their alleys have made their town a more walkable place.

He wrote, “Have you explored George Town, Penang’s back lanes? (I) really like this initiative because it improves the city’s walkability – one lane at a time!”

In his video, he showcased a back alley with a gorgeously paved pathway, a small playground as well as exercise machines.

“I think, one of the initiatives I really like in Penang is that they actually converted back lanes into super walkable spaces,” he said, adding that at least these back alley walkways are not overly crowded and super close to the road.

He also shared that the back alley walkways feel safe, which is an important point considering back alleys are often the most dangerous places to be.

Would you use back alley pathways to walk to your destination should Kuala Lumpur or Petaling Jaya implement this initiative?

Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
