Those of us with office jobs will probably not know about the struggles that food delivery riders or garbage collectors who work for a long time under the hot sun.
In a LinkedIn post, the CEO of a medical company, Eric Chiam, shared how his family would usually want to meet the delivery riders when they come and deliver food so that they can give them a cold drink.
“We looked at the space outside and thought- a fridge with cold drinks would help.”
After taking the weather into account, they would need to build a shelter outside for it and that was too much work so, they changed their idea to a vending machine instead.
Once the machine had arrived, they got to work and stocked it up so that delivery riders, postmen, garbage collectors and drivers can get ice-cold drinks for free.
1 month after the machine began operating, it was recorded that 637 drinks were dispensed which brings about an average of 21 beverages per day.
“Green tea and 100 plus were clear favourites, and nobody liked Hojicha haha.”
Their effort did not go unnoticed and many of those who benefited from this vending machine sincerely thanked the family from the bottom of their hearts through their Instagram page.
Eric Chiam also said,
“The best part of the project is the time spent with the kids topping up drinks. Whilst simple and mindless, it was compact good fun always.”
This is certainly a great deed and we hope that many more who can afford to will step up and do the same.
