Giving someone a gift is something people do on their own volition. But under what circumstances should someone be allowed to ask for the gift back?
A Singaporean woman is now getting called out after she had asked her friend to return the AirPods she gifted him years ago, so that she could use them.
The friend, Singaporean streamer Jeffrey Tan Meng Lee (also known as JEFF TV), took to the Complaint Singapore Facebook group to share how the woman had asked him to return the AirPods she gifted him for his birthday 4 years ago because hers had spoilt and she couldn’t afford to replace them.
He wrote, “Hmm, (this) friendship has ended.”
In his post, he showcased a screenshot of the woman’s messages as she asked for the AirPods back.
“Do you remember 4 years ago, I bought you Apple AirPods as a birthday present? Can I get it back because mine has spoilt and I am not doing so well financially. Can you please return them to me?” she sent.
Responding to her rather unsavoury request, Jeffrey called her out.
“Can you see what you’re typing (asking for) first or not? (They were a) birthday gift and you still want to take them back. By the way, the AirPods have already spoilt long ago.”
“I am also financially not doing well, I don’t have a proper job or income yet. 4 years ago, I bought food for you, economy rice that costed $4.00 (RM14.10), please PayNow (online banking) to me, thanks,” he asked back.
Would you be willing to ask for a gift back, especially if it’s been years since you gave it?
