A Singaporean took to the Facebook group Complaint Singapore recently to vent his frustration at the drop in standard of a local Kopitiam and the ridiculous prices it charges for fish soup.
The man, known as Lim, said that he bought a takeaway Red King Grouper Fish soup at the Kopitiam in Sengkang for his father and was charged SGD9.80 or approximately RM34 in total for the soup (SGD9.50 for the soup, SGD0.30 for the takeaway box).
When he was home, he was shocked to find only a “miserable 3.5 to 4 small slices of fish in the soup”. He asserted,
“This is daylight robbery! I would never patronise their outlets again. The standard has dropped since they started opening more and more outlets, and the fish soup is just not what it used to be.”
In the post, he also shared a photo of the takeaway fish soup, as well as the receipt from the Kopitiam.
He added that taste aside, charging SGD9.50 for 4 small miserable slices of fish leaves a lot to be desired and also commented that the cook was a young man who is rather tan.
In the comments, many agreed with Lim that the price for such a soup is too expensive and praised him for telling other consumers to raise awareness.
Meanwhile, another commenter said that the prices would increase even more next year as Singapore would increase their GST to 9% from 8% this year.
Lim also commented on his own post to update that the management of the Kopitiam has reached out to him to offer a refund as the soup should be 5 slices. However, Lim opines that even so, the price is still too expensive.
