This is a really terrible accident to have happened!
Most of us are familiar with Krabi, Thailand and many of us have probably went there to enjoy their gorgeous beaches before. A shocking accident took place just this morning, at around 9.30am on January 14, as a speedboat ferrying tourists exploded into a fiery disaster.
According to Bangkok Post, the speedboat was carrying 26 Chinese tourists and five crew to the popular Phi Phi Island when the incident occurred. The speedboat, ‘King Poseidon 959’ was passing by the Viking cave on Phi Phi Le in Muang district when the driver noticed a fuel leak at the engines.
He slowed down the boat and quickly went to check the three engines and discovered that one of the fuel tanks was leaking. Although he shut off the valve, a spark managed to lit the fuel and the engine caught fire. Everyone aboard rushed to jump off from the boat into the waters and were rescued by passing tourist boats. That’s really scary!
However, not everyone on the boat was fortunate enough to escape unscathed. Sixteen people were injured and among them, six of them were in serious condition. The other 10 suffered from minor injuries. The Star reported that one victim died while the others are currently being treated for their injuries.
The police said they are investigating the incident while the victims have been sent to the Vachira Phuket Hospital, Phi Phi Hospital and Krabi Hospital for treatment.
