Just yesterday (27th February) South Korea recorded 334 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of infected patients to 1,595. The country also recorded one more death bringing the total number of deaths to 13.
In just one day, 427 new Covid-19 cases were added in South Korea on 28th February, reported Straits Times.
This means that the total number of cases is now 2,022 – the highest in the world besides China. – and is expected to grow until 20th March 2020.
The Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said that more than 90 per cent of the new cases were in Daegu, the city at the epicentre of the outbreak in South Korea.
Experts say South Korea’s numbers are spiking because the authorities are testing people by the thousands each day, with the aim of testing all 210,000 members of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus after the church’s branch in the south-eastern city of Daegu became a hotbed of infections.
The death toll remains at 13 as of now (28th February).
