A 66-year-old prawn seller in Penang attacked his 35-year-old son by scalding him with hot water after they got into an argument over an insurance payout, according to Free Malaysia Today.
During the incident, which happened at the 66-year-old’s apartment at around 6.30pm on Wednesday (8th May), his son demanded that he get his share of a RM30,000 payout from his late mother’s insurance and savings plan. According to Astro Awani, the 35-year-old son, who is unemployed, only got RM10 from his father.
The verbal argument soon began to escalate, resulting in the father splashing hot water at his son from a flask, causing burns on his neck and chest.
After receiving treatment for his burns at the Pulau Pinang Hospital, the son filed a police report. In the report, the 35-year-old explained that his mother, who passed away in 2005, bought an insurance and savings plan for the family. Additionally, according to him, this is the second time his father has scalded him with hot water.
He claimed that his father distributed these payouts equally to his siblings, but left him out. His father later admitted to burning his son and was subsequently arrested.
The 66-year-old was later released on bail yesterday (9th May) and is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
Let’s hope the authorities are able to thoroughly investigate this case and issue an appropriate punishment if the father is found guilty.
