By now, almost everyone in Malaysia is well aware that Datuk Seri Najib Razak takes his chocolates very seriously. He had previously released a statement with the help of his lawyer, Datuk Harpal Singh and stated that the police were irresponsible during the raid at his house. “This is reflected by the manner in which police personnel helped themselves to food and chocolates in the refrigerator,” he said.

So, it makes sense that when Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Amar Singh held a press conference today (May 25) on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) raids, one key question was burning in everyone’s minds: What happened to the chocolates?!

While reporters were busy taking down information, someone had the presence of mind to ask, “What about the disappearing chocolates?” – a question which was met with laughter from the police and the press. Amar had to hide a smile before getting serious in addressing the mystery of the missing sweets, The Star reported.

He said that if the chocolates were really missing as what Najib had claimed, he encouraged Najib to lodge a report so that the police can move forward with the investigation. Although Najib’s lawyers had issued the statement on May 19, until today there has been no other information on the disappearing chocolates.

Amar had previously said that he would professionally investigate this chocolate theft if there was more information and he reaffirmed this once again today. “I wish to reiterate that during our search, I called in all my officers and had given them a very strict and stern warning that no photographs were to be taken and we were supposed to conduct the search as professionally as we can because we are searching the premises of the ex-prime minister and his family,” he said.

Other pertinent details of the investigation were given by Amar as well, such as the items seized at Najib’s house. Meanwhile, a certain amount of jewellery and other luxury items are still being evaluated but there was reportedly RM114 million in cash from 26 different countries, The Star reported.

Malaysians hold food very dear to out hearts and it should come as no surprise that a donation drive would be held for our police force with the hashtag #Chocs4Cops trending on social media. Amar is aware of this as well because when someone asked him, he just gave a smile.
