Large gatherings are certainly frowned upon during this era and anyone seen without a mask would probably be avoided. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case on a ferry in Penang.
Crowds of people were seen flooding the Penang Ferry while going home from work with no sign of social distancing being practised.
According to a post by Penang Kini, temperature scans were not conducted and passenger’s names were not recorded.
From the photos, several passengers can be seen without any masks on while sitting and standing in close proximity with each other. Although to be fair, some space was left between passengers in the seating area.
Seeing that these individuals use the ferry as a mode of transport to and from work every day, this is not just a one-off occurrence. Hopefully, there won’t be any new clusters detected on the ferries travelling between Penang mainland and the island.
Starting 1st August, masks will be made mandatory in public places, especially in crowded areas and public transportation.
