Singapore is an extremely efficient country compared to Malaysia. But no matter how busy some of their working citizens may be, they never forget to have a good heart.
Just recently, SMRT shared a beautiful and inspiring story of how their workers really look out for one of their blind passengers.
On their Facebook post, they wrote,
“Every day, without fail, the team at Commonwealth MRT station will look out for passenger, Miss Junaidah, at the station platform when the train arrives.
“Miss Junaidah, who is visually impaired, will inform station staff at Tampines station, where she boards the train in the morning.
“The staff will ensure that Miss Junaidah boards the train safely, and also inform Commonwealth station staff of the train car and door numbers, so that they can expect Miss Junaidah’s arrival at the station.”
“After guiding her down to the station concourse, station staff will bring a chair for Miss Junaidah as she waits for her friend to accompany her to their workplace nearby.”
Miss Junaidah was very happy and thankful for this special arrangement. She said,
“I’m very appreciative towards the station staff. This is the first station that offered me a chair to sit down.”
The Assistant Station Manager (ASM) Kurinjich Chelvi said that it was about a month ago when they noticed Miss Junaidah and her struggle with commuting.
Miss Kurinnjich explained,
“We found out from her later that she takes the train early in the morning, and would wait for a friend to pick her up from the station.”
“From then on, after we receive a call from Tampines station, we will assign a staff to the platform to wait for her train to arrive, guide her down and give her a seat.
“No matter how busy we can be, we will never forget her.”
“Serving passengers doesn’t involve any money, rewards or getting anything in return. It’s about showing kindness to everyone. It comes from the heart, you don’t need anything else.”
It isn’t necessary to use money when it comes to helping people. Sometimes, all it takes is a little bit of time and effort.
