Sometimes we experience lazy days when we just couldn’t be bothered with looking good when we step out of the house. But if you are taking an Uber ride in Singapore, you should make sure you look cute and presentable.

This is because you might just end up in the car of the Ubergrapher that has been going viral on social media. That’s right, you heard me right. Uber + Photographer= Ubergrapher.
Meet Maverick, a Singaporean uber driver with a knack for photography, who has been gaining attention for taking photos of his passengers.

He posts the photos on the Ubergrapher instagram account, with captions that gives us a peek into the passengers’ lives. The captions are amusing because Maverick gives his take on whether he can function the way they do.
Have you heard of Humans of New York? Maverick’s Instagram page has a similar style and this regular ol’ guy’s Instagram account already has over 5,000 followers since he set it up in October last year.
However, this avid photographer prefers to remain behind camera. During an interview with The New Paper, he declined to show his face on camera and even refused to give his exact age and only said that he was “above 30 years old.”

It was not his original intention to start documenting his passengers.
“Photography is my hobby and I bought a new camera a few months ago. I wanted to snap photos of buildings and places as I drive everywhere every day.”
“Then I discovered that most passengers are friendly and I wanted to share their stories together with their photos.”
The first picture he took as the Ubergrapher was of two full-time national servicemen.
“I told them about my hobby and showed them my photos on my iPad. At the end of the trip, I asked if I could take their photos and they said they did not mind at all. They weren’t surprised at the request,” he said.
“When I ask for permission, 90 percent of the time I get a ‘yes’.”

Maverick makes a habit of posting at least one photo a day on his Instagram account.
Some passengers scramble for their mirrors and make-up pouches when they find out they’ll be photographed. Need to look picture-perfect, okay!

He gets plenty of comments on the Instagram page saying that they would love to ride in his car and appear on his Instagram page one day. Maverick also often has little competitions where the winner gets a free ride.
“I like to think of them as the ‘beautiful people of Singapore’.”
People’s stories deserved to be told, and what Maverick is doing is amazing.
All hail the Ubergrapher!
