Men, you should know by now never to mess around with your another woman’s prized possessions such as their branded handbags, shoes and jewellery. This Singaporean man, Kelvin Ang Soon Lim not only stole three of his ex-wife’s branded handbags but he also forged two cheques in her name.
Channel News Asia reports that the 40-year-old man was charged in court for forgery and theft, as he had forged two cheques amounting to S$640,000 (RM1.97 million) to pay the loan sharks after he had lost money gambling. After settling his debts, he used the remaining S$260,000 (RM803,619) for his Chinese girlfriend in China. Wah, still can use for girlfriend!
These cheques were forged in December 2013, as Ang and his ex-wife Li Xiangli was still living together in separate rooms after the divorce. He duplicated the keys to her room and waited for his chance when Li went back to China to visit her family.
He stole her cheque book from her room and presented two cheques to be cashed at the bank during her absence. Li found out about the theft when she returned from China and checked with the bank. She recognised her ex-husband’s handwriting and confronted him, where he confessed that he had copied her signature from telco bills in the house.
However, she decided not to press charges, as she was concerned for their young child and Ang’s mother had also returned S$472,000 (RM1.45 million) to her.
This was a mistake, because three years later, Ang tried the same trick again but this time he stole three of her handbags, a Hermes handbag worth S$20,000 (RM61,819), a Celine handbag worth S$3,250 (RM10,045), a Balenciaga handbag worth $2,590 (RM8,005) and a credit card.
Furious with his thieving habit, Li decided to make a police report and Ang was arrested. He pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced to four years in jail.
Moral of the story: Don’t mess with a woman’s handbags! But most importantly, don’t steal!
